Mom found this this rectangular piece of china at a second hand store and we've been trying to figure out what it is supposed to be for: It's about 8 1/2 inches long 2 inches wide... ...and is made in Japan.
Hi Alyssa! I know what it is!! My sister and my mother both have one that is very similar just with a different floral. Its a glasses place to put them when you are not wearing them! You can put it on your dresser or night stand, so you don't lose your glasses.
I saw on TV some food shows in which they serve sushy food. Here it is an example http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://whatscookingamerica.net/Appetizers/AmericanSushi2.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.tripcrazed.com/715617921/food-war-saturday-where-to-find-the-best-sushi/&h=324&w=432&sz=45&tbnid=SIY3f-Hy8w9sBM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsushy%2Bfood&hl=en&usg=__-Br7V9j4MtKDUTo0ToQggeW_yZw=&ei=J0TpS_2gFNKOOLqsjKQL&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=1&ct=image&ved=0CCAQ9QEwAA

Thanks for your comment! We hadn't thought of it being an eye glass holder, but that makes sense. :)
