Way Back When-sday

Isn't the trim detail neat on this dress?! It seems to be three bias cords that are sewn together and used to define the waist and finish the tops of the pockets. Very clever!

Close up of a pocket. :)

Monday musings...

We've been quite busy with the gardens and mowing lately. This time of year is so pretty and makes me thankful for all the beauty God created for us to enjoy. He could have made a dull gray world! It's sad to think of all the people who've been brainwashed to think that all this somehow evolved and came about by accident. It's like believing Mount Rushmore happened by erosion! Anyway, here is a trailer for my favorite creation film The Mysterious Islands. If you haven't seen it yet I encourage you to get the DVD!

The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness,

the world and those who dwell therein.

Psalm 24:1

"River of Jordan"

Friends of ours often sing this song when doing music concerts. It's a good one!

Way Back When-sday: Redwork on Feedsacks...

We found this red work piece at a garage sale this past weekend. It was 25 cents!

On some of the blocks we could see wording from an old feed sack.

At first I assumed it was a quilt top, but when we got home and I looked at it closer....

...I realized that all the seams are finished (they look like flat-felled seams) and all the edges are hemmed. Maybe it was used as a tablecloth...? Any ideas?

New and Improved!

The "Sense and Sensibility Pattern" website now has a new look!!
This is a one of my favorite websites. Not only does it have lovely original patterns for sale, but it also offers online sewing classes, sewing tips, eBooks of vintage fashion catalogs, plus a section of vintage images to get inspiration from. Wow! Oh, and be sure to look through the show and tell pages! :)
Check it out HERE!

Work Day at the Millers!

This past Saturday our family, along with several others, got together to help Mrs. Miller and her girls with spring projects.

Andy Bradrick was the foreman. He had everything organized with the supplies for each project all ready and waiting along with a list of what needed to be done at each 'station'.

Some of us girls were busy washing the siding on the garage.

A few of the men working on the porch.

There was plenty of brush to haul away and burn.

Transplanting flowers.

After all the work we had supper. Yum!

It was fun to get together and help friends.
We love you Mrs. Miller and girls!

Mother's Day...

I love my Mom!

Sunday afternoon we watched The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry (one of Mom's favorite films), and we girls made a special meal for her. For a treat, Ana made a delicious gluten-free chocolate cake for dessert! :) Yum!

Small Things Done Well

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men. Proverbs 22:29

"To excel in our work, we must do the small things well because it is in doing the small things well that we achieve greater things."
- Jim Ryun

"Wanted" - a western

This is a short 7 minute western made by a group of young men from Texas. They were very creative! Visit WantedWestern.com for more information about the project.

Synopsis:

"Trouble is brewing in the small town of Bandera, Texas. A young sheriff is put through a test of fire when he learns that the candidate for Mayor is a criminal from the north. The villain's charisma is rapidly gaining support in the town, and his promises of prosperity spark hope in the weary townspeople. With so much at stake, the winner will take all."

If you watched the film, what did you think of it?
