Quilt Tops From Mrs. L. :)

A friend of mine, Mrs. L., gave me these two quilts tops - a cross stitched one and a partially finished appliqued one. She put so much work into them in years past, but now she is 86 and her eye sight is not so good. None of her relatives are interested in these quilts, so, knowing how much I LOVE quilts, she gave them to me. I was very excited! Aren't they beautiful?!!

The cross stitched quilt top.

What a lot of work she did!

The directions and extra thread.

A happy quilt lover!

The 'Apple Blossom' quilt top is not completed yet...

..it still needs the last quarter made up. However Mrs. L. did not have enough of the blue background fabric to finish it. I have looked in town but I can't seem to find anything that is close enough in color. I guess the blues in 1950 were different than what we have now. The weight and drape of it is different too.

The templates, thread, and thimble she had used were still in with the quilt pieces when she gave them to me. :)

This is what the quilt is supposed to look like when it is finished and quilted.

I've been thinking about how I could combine the 3 quarters that are finished in a different way to make a quilt that is a little smaller than it was originally intended to be. Or I could make two much smaller quilts... I'll have to see. :)
