Dresses From Tasha Tudor's Collection

These lovely dresses were a part of Tasha Tudor's collection that were auctioned off a couple years ago. I love to look at all the detailed work that went into their construction.

Cream ground printed with allover trailing flowers in pink, green, blue, purple and yellow, wide V neckline, full sleeves pleated and ruffled at top of arm ending in 5" cuff, inset waistband, full gathered skirt, muslin lining in bodice and hem facing. B 34", W 24", Sh-Sh 18.5", L 51"

Below: Cream Silk Brocade Ballgown, Late 1820s

Striped silk brocaded with small scattered flowers, wide shallow neckline with diagonal pleats radiating out to shoulders, full puffed sleeves, inset waistband, skirt pleated with gathers at center back, brass hooks, linen bodice lining, crinoline sleeve lining, bobbin lace trim, possibly 1790s Spitalfields fabric.
B 29", W 23", Sh-Sh 16.5", L 49"-51".

Below: Frittilaria Printed Wool Dress, 1835-1840

Yellow silk and wool challis printed with pink flowers on curving green stems against brocaded windowpane ground, wide V neckline, horizontal gathering over bust, full sleeves pleated down at top of arm, long cuff with narrow single button wristband, full pleated skirt, dress piped in cherry silk, skirt, bodice and sleeves lined with glazed thin linen.
B 34", W 24", Sh-Sh 17.5", L 53"

These dresses remind me of some we saw when we were at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts several years ago. The ladies working there wore dresses very similar to the Day Dress, just a little simpler in style. I loved that place and would like to go again someday.
